Samsung Link is dead but your content is safe

Samsung Link, previously known as AllShare Play, has been shut down for good. Samsung surprisingly pulled the plug on the service without prior notice, though all saved content is safe and nothing will be deleted.

Samsung Link app was used to connect different devices and storage services in one place. It made easy sharing multimedia and docs between the logged devices, remote accessing them, and even connecting smartphones to TVs and streaming various content.

Samsung says the Link app is no longer active because of "internal operation policy", whatever this means. There are no further details on the matter.

All files are still available on the individual devices and in the cloud storage service, so nobody is losing precious data. But you should probably download your files just to be on the safe side of another "internal operation policy" occurrence.

Alleged vivo X7 Plus leaks in live photos

We are already well aware that vivo is working on the X7, as well as its bigger X7 Plus sibling. These are said to be the spiritual successors to the vivo Xshot and according to some official teasers will be unveiled on June 30.

We now know quite a bit about the new handsets and todays fresh leak offers a glimpse of one of the the devices out in the open along with some extra hardware info. Judging by the scale of the unit in question, we are probably looking at the bigger vivo X7 Plus, said to come with a 5.7-inch display. Also, we are fairly certain this is not an actual functioning device, but rather a dummy one.

Regardless, it does look the part and for what its worth, is probably what the end product is going to look like. As far as design goes, there is really nothing all that surprising, as it does follow the companys traditional styling. The fingerprint reader appears to be embedde d in the home button on the front, as one is absent from the back, but that was already revealed through another one of vivos teasers.

After some initial mix-up regarding specs on the X7, industry sources now seem to agree that at least one of the devices will be powered by a Snapdragon 652 SoC along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. There has also been word of a 6GB RAM, plus 128GB storage version. The 16MP primary shooter is certain at this point as well.

As for price, we have been hearing some conflicting reports. Apparently the basic one will cost somewhere along the lines of CNY 2598 or CNY 2698 (about $400), while the alleged upper tier should be CNY 3288 (around $500).

Week 30 in review Note 7 and iPhone rumors

Both Apples and Samsungs big announcement are almost here - the Note7 Unpacked event is set for August 2, the iPhone 7 family should come a few weeks later. Many interesting things are coming are way shortly and naturally, the leaks and rumors are getting a lot clearer and more informative.

As far as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 goes, we have ads, renders, leaked shots, specs and even official press images and preliminary pricing. All we have to do now is wait through the long weekend for the phablet to finally be unveiled.

The rope is tightening around the new iPhone lineup as well, although it is still shrouded with a lot more mystery than we would like. Even the naming is still being debated, although the iPhone 7 moniker does appear to pop-up more frequently.

In other news BlackBerry debuted its second Android handset. The $299 DTEK50 seems to be a rebranded version of a certain rec ent Alcatel model. Then there is Gionees pair of battery-rich M6 and M6 Plus handset and also the highly-anticipated Xiaomi Redmi Pro flagship.

Last but not least, a veritable war seems to be under way on the increasingly-popular ultralight laptop scene. Xiaomi finally threw its gloves into the ring with the Mi Notebook Air - a device that has been frequenting the rumor mill for years now. And not long after, to make things even more interesting, Lenovo entered the race as well.

Australian Police reminds Pokémon Go players to Stay safe and catch ‘em all!

Last night, Pokémon Go quietly began rolling out in various countries around the world including the US, Japan, New Zealand and namely, Australia, where the North Territory Police Department published a Facebook post reminding new Players of the game to stay safe and watch their surroundings when playing the GPS-based mobile game.

This message came about as many players were stopping inside the Police station which is marked as a landmark in the game as a ‘Pokestop’ where players can collect items and pokéballs from Pokéstops all over town at various landmarks.

The message tips players that they don’t need to actually enter the Police Station in order to collect pokéballs. As well as reminds players “It’s also a good idea to look up, away from your phone and both ways before crossing the street. That Sandshrew isn’t going anywhere fast.” Then ends it with “Stay safe and catch ‘em all!”

Pretty cool!

No more Gear VR on the Note7 until further notice Oculus says

The unfortunate Galaxy Note7 just cannot catch a break. Samsung officially announced recalling it once again, while the company tries to find out whats causing its fiery woes, but if you choose youd rather test your luck and keep yours, youll be denied Gear VR functionality.

Oculus has disabled its service on the Note7/Gear VR combo until further notice citing customer safety as top priority and referring customers to Samsung for more information. Its not a surprising move on Oculus part - after all, inside the Gear VR is about as close as the potentially dangerous Note7 comes to vital organs (butt cheeks dont count).

The issue from now on seems to be how customers will go about returning Galaxy Note7 peripherals like the Gear VR or Gear Fit 2 they got bundled with the phone. Both devices can work just as well with the Galaxy S7s of this world (the S7 edge, too), but after this whole ordea l some users may want to get rid of all things Note7 related. Wed offer Oculus advice on the matter - contact Samsung.
